JUNIOR FORMS

F1 Visual Arts

F1 students work on a wide range of projects to explore within the arts. We aim at equipping students with a variety of basic art and design skills: graphic design, sculpture, fashion illustration and landscape painting. Each year the projects are modified to fit the current situation, but our aim remains clear: to let students explore the possibility of expressing oneself and honouring nature and all wonders on earth, finding hope and gratitude in life through art.  As our introduction was through zoom this year, the first two projects made connections with the pandemic, allowing students to continue to stay positive and creative during their online lessons.

ALL ABOUT ME

Since our introduction was through zoom, the project aimed to express and to introduce each other through designing masks which was the most essential item under the current situation. Students created a design by combining images of important things in their life and combined them in a drawing which best represents themselves.

SILHOUETTES

Since students were spending a lot of time indoor due to COVID 19, students were encouraged to observe scenes and created a silhouette image that can interact with the environment they see outside of their windows. Students used their imaginations and added silhouette art to their windows humorously or creatively.

CLASSROOM BOARDS / GRATITUDE AND HOPE

Finally, being able to meet face to face in the art room was a good opportunity for students to learn to collaborate in creating large-scale one-piece artwork. In groups, students discussed compositional ideas and how to present and display an effective visual presentation of the theme “Gratitude and hope” using acrylic paint on a large scale applying the grid system. Students studied the colors on the color wheel then experimented with various techniques before coming up with the final production.

CHINESE NEW YEAR/ OX SCULPTURE

F2 Art

In Art Stream, students work on a project ‘Hong Kong Story’ to study more about the place where we grow up in. They first learn to do primary research, like interviewing family members who provide first hand information about the different aspects namely historical events, life in the old days, pop culture, infrastructure and folk custom. They then do secondary research to study more about the history, after which students learn different print-making techniques and produce a monochromatic narrative outcome. Their next project is on visual culture where they analyse the images of an old object related to the focused area and produce watercolour outcomes. Their final acrylic painting is to visually present a theme to depict the development of their studied area. At the end of the term, students work in groups to produce a Joseph Cornell's Box with the works done previously, which include a printing and a painting, founded objects, together with an audio which they record the oral history provided by their family members. We hope to present to others what Hong Kong has gone through during the last century.
